Pale shell-sand beaches and vast tidal flats along the south side of Snæfellsnes, from Hítarnes west to Stakkhamar — Iceland’s most celebrated horse-riding shore, where every crossing is timed to the tides.

⚠️ CautionDo not cross the flats on foot or horseback without an experienced local guide. The tide floods the flats fast, patches of quicksand lurk in the sand and the waves are unpredictable — and take care near the sea cliffs in the area.
