Tide times — Djúpalónssandur (black pebble beach)

Tide tables · nearest station: Rif · updates automatically

A black pebble beach below Snæfellsjökull glacier, with the four lifting stones (Fullsterkur, Hálfsterkur, Hálfdrættingur, Amlóði) that men had to lift to earn a berth at the Dritvík fishing station. The rusted iron in the sand is wreckage from the British trawler Epine, lost just offshore in 1948; it is left undisturbed as a memorial to the 14 men who died.

⚠️ CautionThe same hazard as Reynisfjara: sneaker waves surge far up the beach without warning and the undertow is powerful. Keep well back from the water and never turn your back on the waves. safetravel.is
